Oyu Tolgoi to Establish a Tree Nursery in Arkhangai Province

Under the “100 Million Trees for the future” program, construction has commenced on a modern, mechanized tree nursery in Tsenkher soum of Arkhangai province.

The facility will have the capacity to produce 1.5 million coniferous, deciduous, and fruit tree and shrub seedlings annually.

The project addresses the current shortage of sustainable seedling supply and the limited nursery infrastructure in the western region and will play a strategic role in supporting regional reforestation efforts.

The project will:

• Produce climate-adapted, high-quality seedlings for supply to the western region

• Reforest 60 hectares of land in Arkhangai province

• Create local employment opportunities

Construction and the first two years of operations will be fully financed, with ongoing operations to be managed by the local company Tsetserleg Mandal Ar LLC.

Since 2022, the “100 Million Trees for the future” program has led to the establishment of multiple nurseries in Umnugovi province: in Tsogt-Ovoo and Sevrei soums (each with an annual capacity of 500,000 seedlings), and in Khanbogd, Manlai, and Bayan-Ovoo soums (each with a capacity of 250,000 seedlings). Over the past three years, a total of 36.4 million trees have been planted and grown directly and through offset initiatives.
